Job Overview
This position performs a wide range of duties involved with preparing and/or serving foods and beverages in one or more of a variety of food service environments. May perform such duties as preparing salad items, hot foods, and/or cold foods, and/or assisting in the preparation of baking, broiling, frying, or assembling food items, as appropriate and other related job duties assigned.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Prepares or assists in the preparation of hot and cold meals and vegetable dishes, beverages, salads, sandwiches, and/or other similar food items, within the ServSafe guidelines and within dietary specifications. Uses steamtables, stoves, knives, blenders, ovens and other kitchen equipment as appropriate.
- Assists with food preparation duties for the day by cutting, peeling, or slicing as needed.
- Sets up food service, kitchen, or salad area facilities, equipment and utensils, under detailed instruction, in accordance with specific area needs; checks food temperatures and/or prepares areas for daily operations; operate cooking or bakery equipment as needed
- Serves food items to clients from steam tables, in accordance with specific instructions, ensuring that appropriate portions are served; replenishes foods, silverware, glassware, dishes, and trays at serving stations; may order and replenish condiments.
- Fills milk, juice, and/or ice machines, if present in area of operation; ensures that machines are cleaned and maintained, as necessary.
- Cleans the kitchen and dining area by picking up trash, clearing and washing plates and dishes, and wiping down tables as needed.
- Cleans pots, pans, and any other dishes in the kitchen as needed, adhering to safety and sanitation standards at all times.
- Cleans and maintains work areas, including floors, facilities, utensils, and equipment; collects and places garbage and trash in designated containers; as appropriate to the area of operation.
- Adheres to food safety standards at all times, making sure that all food is free or contaminants and pathogens
- Assures proper storage and use of inventory, monitoring and recording temperatures.
- Attends to day-to-day problems and needs concerning equipment and food supplies; detects and ensures disposition of spoiled or unattractive food, defective supplies/equipment, and/or other unusual conditions.
- Organizes and completes client orientation and continuing life skills education classes
- Serves and protects the agency by adhering to professional standards, agency policies and procedures, Statement of Work requirements and ACA standards
- Provides guidance and training to other employees performing related work.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
- One year of quantity food preparation and service experience is required
- Any other combination of training and experience that could likely provide the desired skills, knowledge or abilities may be considered
- Skill in cooking and preparing a variety of foods.
- Knowledge of food preparation and presentation methods, techniques, and quality standard
- Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to reach into cabinetry above and below kitchen equipment. Ability to work with computers and the applicable software typically used by the facility.
- Must be able to follow rules and regulations and compliance tasks as outlined in the policy and procedures
Certifications and Licenses
- ServSafe Food Handler’s certificate required and must be secured within completion of the probationary period and maintained throughout employment.
- Valid driver’s license and appropriate liability insurance required. Positions in this classification may be required to travel and work at multiple sites on a regular basis
- First Aid / CPR / AED certification agency completion of the ninety-day probationary period and maintain certification throughout employment in this classification.
